01

Repair

Storm Damage

Assessment and documentation of wind and hail damage, photographed and written up while the evidence is still on the roof.

What this involves

What you are seeing

  • Shingles lying flat but no longer bonded — they lift by hand at the tab
  • Damage running along one rake or edge rather than scattered across the plane
  • Ridge cap displaced, which is usually the first thing to move
  • Impact marks from debris, which is a different failure from uplift

02

Repair

Hail Damage

Hail bruising is often invisible from the ground and still shortens a roof's life. Assessment and documentation of impact damage across each elevation.

What this involves

What you are looking for

  • Granules collecting at the downspout in the weeks after a storm
  • Soft dark circles where granules have been knocked clear of the mat
  • Dents in soft metal — gutters, vent caps, the flue — which record the stone size
  • Splatter marks on painted surfaces, showing which elevations took it

03

Replacement

Metal Roofing

Standing seam or metal panel systems. A longer service life and a different detailing discipline, particularly at penetrations and terminations.

What this involves

Where metal earns it

  • Long uninterrupted runs with few things coming through them
  • A pitch shallow enough that shingle would be working against gravity
  • An owner who'll be there long enough to see the second half of its life

The rest of the list

The particular jobs, by what has gone wrong.

The 3 above are where most conversations start. These are what they usually turn out to be once somebody has been up and looked — and each one has its own page.

When the roof is at the end01

  1. Roof Replacement

Complete tear-off and replacement of the covering, with the deck, underlayment, flashing and ventilation renewed as one system rather than a new surface over old problems.

When something is wrong01

  1. Roof Repair

Leaks, lifted or missing shingles, flashing and penetrations — traced to where the water actually enters, repaired, then checked.

The next step

Not sure which of those it is?

Most people are not, and picking wrongly costs you nothing here. Say what you are seeing and the inspection decides.
